Fight Fatigue with Body Guard

personal protection productsIn this fast paced world, it’s impossible not to feel tired most of the time. Our jobs and our lives are demanding. We want to get ahead in our careers, we work late hours and come in just as early. At home, many of us have families or we want to spend time with friends. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. If we’re tired all the time, how are we going to stay on top of our game? How can we make the best decisions or stay safe with our eyes drooping and running on 6 hours of sleep?

The answer is you can’t. That’s why Tom Patire has created his very own energy drink, Body Guard. One small bottle can keep you going throughout the day without crashing and burning later, like with other energy drinks. One bottle is normally $3.50 but if you purchase 12, you can save 15% and pay only $3 each. With the help of Body Guard, you focus on your work, or play, whatever it is you’re doing. The bottom line is that you will feel refreshed and energized, ready to take the world by storm.

Playing It Safe in the Snow

family safety programAs I watch light little flurries flying across the sky, I’m reminded of all the perils snow can cause. Some don’t understand why people can hate the snow so much. It’s simple really. It can be incredibly dangerous! Whether you’re walking in it, shoveling piles of it, or driving through it, many safety precautions need to be taken.

Driving in snow isn’t recommended. It’s best to stay home, but sometimes you have to go out there. Start by having excellent traction  on your tires. Look for winter tires if it tends to snow a lot in your area. Windshield wipers should be frequently replaced and always on so that you can have better visibility. Condensation often forms inside the car and even though you won’t like it, put on the A/C. Always come to a slow and steady stop. Slamming on brakes will result in skidding. Contrary to popular belief, if you start to swerve, move the steering wheel with the direction of the skid and not the opposite direction.

When it’s time to shovel, start by warming up and stretching your muscles first. Always lift with your legs and not your back. You want to bend your knees and keep your back as straight as possible to lessen the strain. Twisting the back is the worst thing you can possibly do. Give yourself plenty of breaks and rest. Take it slowly!

Online Dating Safety Tips

personal protection dvdLast week we talked about family safety tips for children on the computer, but adults need to exercise caution as well. Online dating has become immensely popular over the last few years. According to Match.com’s cute little commercial, 1 in 5 relationships begin on an online dating site. My own sister met her husband online.

When creating a username and profile, always be cautious. Never divulge personal information like your name, phone number, or address. Be smart about what you put in the profile. You do not want to attract the wrong kind of people. Start with messaging first and then phone calls before you jump to meeting the person. This gives you a bit more security in knowing they are who they say they are. Ask for pictures from different time’s in the person’s life. Be wary of someone with only one photo or only professional pictures.

When you’re ready to meet in person always meet in a public place. Never let the other person pick you up. Inform friends and/or family about the date and where you plan on going. Keep your cellphone with you at all times and on. Update friends of any changes in the night. Refrain from excessive drinking; it can lead to poor judgement. Trust your instincts and if at any time you feel uncomfortable, ask for help.

Both men and women need to exercise caution. Learn more about family safety programs at TomPatire.com.

Playing It Safe on the Internet

family safetyYears ago we didn’t have to “fear” the Internet as much as we do now. There were less methods of protection, but fewer people online. Now literally everyone spends most of their time perusing the Internet and there are higher demands for safety measures. Adults and children alike always needs to use caution. Many children don’t know any better and are curious to see what they can find. Adults should know better but some are still willing to reveal personal information to people they’ve never met.

Children should always be monitored when online. Keep the computer in the family room or someplace where they can always be in view. You can install special programs and change features to block adult content. If you notice your children always minimize windows or click away from sites when you enter the room, that is a blaring sign that they are looking at something they shouldn’t be. Teach them to never reveal their names, address, etc. to anyone on the Internet. And you should be doing the same! It’s hard to keep kids away from the computer for long. But at least you can minimize their online time and watch what they’re doing.

Safety in the Skies

personal protection productsDid you know that after the events of 9/11, Tom Patire was one of the first people hired by airlines all over the globe to develop a special safety program for flight crews? If Tom is the first person people turn to after such a tragedy, how could you not turn to him for family safety? Tom did not hesitate to create a program for flight attendants and the rest of the screw. However, he went a step further and also developed one for those sitting in the passenger seats. After all, why shouldn’t we know what to do if something were to occur too?

Being on an airplane definitely causes a feeling of being trapped. You pretty much are though. There are small quarters and you’re thousands of feet above the ground. What are you going to do? In the SkySafe program, Tom will inform you how to diffuse a situation and how to prevent one from even happening. The last thing you want is a confrontational event on the plane. Some of the topics that Tom goes over include reading body language, what to say and what not to say, release techniques, personal protection maneuvers, and more.

Look to Tom Patire for family safety programs, child safety programs, and a wealth of others to keep everyone out of harm’s way.

Tips for Teachers to Keep Children Safe at School

child safety programWhen parents send their children off to school, their safety is now in the hands of the teachers. Teachers should be well educated in child safety. No parent should ever be fearful of what’s going on when their kids are at school. Here are some great kids safety tips for teachers to ensure a safe, protected environment for their students.

  • All outside doors should be closed and locked when school is in session. Recommend a buzzer system if there isn’t one already so visitors can identify themselves. A camera and intercom system is immensely cost-effective.
  • Classroom doors should be kept closed, making it easier for teachers to notice if someone walks into the room.
  • Hallways should always be monitored by other teachers or staff members during school hours.
  • Discuss with the rest of the school staff a plan of action in case a stranger was to come into the school. No one thinks it will happen and when it does, few no how to actually handle the situation.
  • All teachers should be well trained in both CPR and Emergency First Aid.

Setup a child safety program with Tom Patire at your school to teach both children and teachers about good safety practices at your school and while at home.

Home Heating Safety

family safety programLast time we briefly mentioned some winter tips that applied towards senior citizen safety. But when it comes to home heating, everyone can be at risk this winter season, so much so that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) feels the need to send out a warning about it every year to promote family safety. Cooking and home heating are the leading causes of residential fires during the winter. Carbon monoxide related deaths are also at increase during the winter months as well, thanks to fuel-burning appliances.

If use a space heater, place it on a flat and level floor, never on rugs or carpets. Keep the heater at least three feet from bedding, drapes, furniture, and anything flammable. Never leave it on when you go to bed and turn it off when you leave the room. Have any fireplaces inspected each year for any leakage or blockage. Open the fireplace damper before lighting the fire and keep it open until the flames cool. (The open damper can prevent a build-up of poisonous gases.)

To prevent CO poisoning, schedule an inspection on all fuel-burning heating systems like furnaces, boilers, water heaters, vents, etc. Keep portable generators as far from your home as possible and away from open vents. Never use gas or electric stoves to heat the home. And it should go without saying that you should always check that your smoke and CO alarms are in working order.

Winter Safety Tips for Senior Citizens

senior citizen safetyThe winter can be a dangerous time for everyone but even more so for the elderly. Senior citizen safety in the cold winter months is very important so they stay healthy and avoid slips and falls. Snow and ice are deadly for us all and we must all take precautions when the roads and sidewalks are icy. Don’t walk on sidewalks unless you know they have been shoveled and sanded. Keep in mind that snowy conditions may keep drivers from braking in time, so be cautious when crossing the street. Avoid carrying numerous packages when walking on the snow. Take your time and wear non-slip shoes/boots.

Hypothermia is most common among those over the age of 75. Warning signs include shivering, cold skin that is pale, feeling tired/weak, and a slower heart rate or breathing. Always wrap yourself in warm clothing and blankets. Drink warm fluids, but not alcohol or caffeinated drinks.

Accidents can happen inside too, especially with space heaters. Your space heater should be checked annually. Turn off the heater when not in the room. Ensure your smoke detector has working batteries. This is also cold and flu season. Get your flu shot! Wash your hands thoroughly and stay home if you are sick. Check with your doctor if you are well enough to shovel snow.

With these senior safety tips in mind, you can have a warm and healthy winter.
